After one too many drinks over the Christmas period we are always looking for a fresh start; a chance to be healthier yet still have fun. Below are some non alcoholic but very tasty mocktails which will keep your fluids up without the intake of booze. Please share your own recipes in the comments section.

Warming Mulled Apple Cider

Ingredients – Serves 4 – 5 Glasses

1 cinnamon stick
5 Cloves
Peel of 1 large orange
Peel of 1 large lemon
Small knob of fresh ginger, grated
1 litre carton apple juice
2tsp runny honey

Method

  1. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, orange and lemon peel, and the ginger to a large saucepan. Add more of each ingredient if you particularly love the flavour or scent.
  2. Pour in the apple juice and place the pan over a low heat, simmering for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse. Don’t let it boil or you will evaporate the liquid and potentially spoil the flavour.
  3. Stir in the honey, but add as much as you like to taste.
  4. Strain the mixture into a jug and serve whilst still warm, preferably in a mug. Nothing screams Winter like a warm drink in a mug.
  5. If the jug of mixture cools before you’ve finished drinking, you can return it to the saucepan and reheat it again.

Fig & Balsamic Soda

Ingredients – Serves 1 glass

2 Tbsps Fig Syrup
1/2 tsp Balsamic Vinegar
200ml Soda Water
Fresh Figs
Ice

Method

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice and add soda water.
  2. Add fig syrup and balsamic vinegar. Stir gently to combine. Add more syrup for a sweeter drinker and more vinegar for a sharper flavour.
  3. Garnish with a slice of fresh fig, and serve.

Cranberry Bellini Mocktail

Ingredients – Serves 1 glass

250ml sparkling grape juice
1-2 rounded scoops of cranberry sorbet
Cranberries, to garnish
Fresh Mint, to garnish

Method

  1. Scoop cranberry sorbet into glass. If you cannot find cranberry sorbet, substitute strawberry or raspberry, or you can even attempt to make it yourself.
  2. Pour the sparkling grape juice over the sorbet.
  3. Add cranberries and mint on top for garnish or mix for extra flavor. If you have replaced the sorbet with another flavour use the relating fruit instead of cranberries.
