{"id":924,"date":"2022-10-21T13:21:15","date_gmt":"2022-10-21T12:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/?p=924"},"modified":"2022-10-21T13:21:15","modified_gmt":"2022-10-21T12:21:15","slug":"frighteningly-good-halloween-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/?p=924","title":{"rendered":"Frighteningly Good Halloween Celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Happy Halloween!<\/h1>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">It&#8217;s that time of year when we get to dress up just for the sheer fun of it!<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-926 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Halloween-Photo-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But Halloween is not a modern holiday, it dates back over 2000 years ago.\u00a0 When ancient Celts commemorated the end of the harvest season, between the fall equinox and the winter solstice by lighting bonfires, dancing and wearing masks to ward off spirits &#8211; sound familiar?\u00a0 \u00a0Over the years this evolved, (10th century) when Christianity adapted this celebration to All Saints Day on the 1st November, and the 2nd of November All Souls Day, a day to honour the dead.\u00a0 All Saints day was called All-Hallows and the night before was called All Hallows Eve, and eventually became known as Halloween.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-925 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Halloween-Photo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"158\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Carving a Jack-O-Lantern?\u00a0 \u00a0Traditionally carving turnips started in the 1800&#8217;s in Ireland and Scotland.\u00a0 Originating from a myth about a man nicknamed &#8220;Stingy Jack&#8221; who tricked the devil and was said to be left to roam the darkness with only a lump of coal alight inside a turnip to light his way.\u00a0 People then started to carve their own &#8220;Jack-O-Lanterns to ward off the &#8220;Stingy Jack&#8221; and any other wandering evil spirits.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you are having a massive party and had to hire a hall because you asked to many people!\u00a0 Or if your just entertaining a few, or if you just want to eat all the treats yourself, we are here to help you celebrate Halloween.\u00a0 Here are some of our favourite Halloween treats to make sure your party is frighteningly good!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/halloween-brownies\">Halloween brownies<\/a><\/h2>\n<section class=\"recipe__ingredients col-12 mt-md col-lg-6\" data-component=\"IngredientsList\" data-feature=\"Recipe Instructions\">\n<h2 class=\"mb-md section-heading-1\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<section><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-928 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Halloween-Photo-3-594x365.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">200g\u00a0butter<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">200g\u00a0dark chocolate,\u00a0roughly chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">4\u00a0large eggs<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">350g\u00a0caster sugar<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">100g\u00a0plain flour<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">50g\u00a0cocoa powder<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">100g\u00a0milk chocolate,\u00a0chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">100g\u00a0white chocolate,\u00a0chopped<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">12\u00a0cr\u00e9me-filled chocolate sandwich cookies<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">12\u00a0sugar-coated chocolates<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">red and black icing pens<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"recipe__method-steps mb-lg col-12 col-lg-6\" data-placement=\"MethodList\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-xs section-heading-1\">Method<\/h3>\n<div class=\"grouped-list\">\n<ul class=\"grouped-list__list list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 1-<\/span>Heat the oven to 180C\/160C fan\/gas 4 and line a 24 x 20cm brownie tin with baking parchment. Melt the butter and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a small pan of just simmering water. Stir until completely smooth, then leave to cool for 10 mins.<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 2-<\/span>Beat the eggs and sugar with an electric whisk until thick and pale \u2013 the mixture should double in volume and leave a trail when the beaters are lifted. Pour the cooled dark chocolate mixture around the edge of the bowl. Sift over the flour and cocoa, add the milk chocolate, and gently fold everything together with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/review\/best-spatulas\">spatula<\/a>\u00a0or large metal spoon. Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 35-40 mins.<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 3-<\/span>Meanwhile, make the \u2018eyeballs\u2019. Melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over the pan of just simmering water. Stir until smooth. Dip each cookie into the chocolate to cover one side. Stick a sugar-coated chocolate in the centre of each, then leave to set. When the chocolate is fully dry, pipe a pupil and red veins onto each eyeball using the icing pens.<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 4-<\/span>Remove the traybake from the oven, and immediately push the eyeballs into the surface in even rows \u2013 do this gently, so they\u2019re just pushed in slightly. Leave to cool completely.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/howto\/guide\/kitchen-knives-how-buy-best\">Cut<\/a>\u00a0into 12 squares.\n<div class=\"editor-content\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delish.com\/uk\/cooking\/recipes\/a29205846\/dracula-dentures-recipe\/\"><em><strong>Dracula Dentures<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.delish.com\/uk\/cooking\/recipes\/a29205846\/dracula-dentures-recipe\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-929 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Halloween-Photo-4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"ingredients-header\">\n<div class=\"ingredient-title\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"ingredients-header-title\" style=\"text-align: left;\" role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">INGREDIENTS<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredients-body\">\n<div class=\"ingredient-section ingredient-section-1\">\n<div class=\"ingredient-lists\">\n<div class=\"ingredient-item\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ingredient-amount\">1 <\/span>tube chocolate chip cookie dough<\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient-item\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"ingredient-amount\">1 <\/span>can vanilla frosting<\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient-item\" style=\"text-align: left;\">red food colouring<\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient-item\" style=\"text-align: left;\">mini marshmallows<\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredient-item\" style=\"text-align: left;\">slivered almonds<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"ingredients-body\">\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Preheat oven to 180\u00b0C (160\u00baC fan). Line two large baking trays with parchment paper. Roll cookie dough into 4cm balls and place on baking trays. Bake until golden, about 12 minutes. Let cool completely then cut in half.<\/li>\n<li>Add a few drops of red food colouring into vanilla frosting and stir until smooth. Spread a thin layer of red frosting onto each cookie half.<\/li>\n<li>Place mini marshmallows around the round edges of half of the halves. Place the remaining halves on top, then stick a slivered almond on each side to create fangs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"heading-1\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/eyeball-snot-tail\">Cocktail Eyeball snot-tail<\/a><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/eyeball-snot-tail\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-931 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.eawuk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Halloween-Photo-5-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"ingredients-body\">\n<div class=\"ingredient-section ingredient-section-1\">\n<div>\n<p>Ingredients<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<section>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">135g\u00a0pack lime jelly<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">700ml\u00a0apple &amp; pear juice\u00a0(we used Copella)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">300ml\u00a0lemonade<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">425g\u00a0can lychees\u00a0in syrup<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">10-15\u00a0cocktail cherries\u00a0from a jar<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">10-15\u00a0raisins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h5 class=\"mb-sm mt-sm heading-5\">You will need<\/h5>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xxs pt-xxs list-item list-item--separator\">10-15\u00a0cocktail sticks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"mb-xs section-heading-1\">Method<\/h3>\n<div class=\"grouped-list\">\n<ul class=\"grouped-list__list list\">\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 1 &#8211; <\/span>Make the jelly following pack instructions and chill until set. Combine the apple &amp; pear juice with the lemonade in a large jug and chill in the fridge.<br \/>\nSTEP 2 &#8211; To make the eyeballs, drain the lychees and poke a hole in each cherry with one of the cocktail sticks. Put the cherry inside the lychee, then push the raisin into the cherry. Press the eyeball onto the end of a cocktail stick and set aside until serving.<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 3 &#8211; <\/span>When the jelly has set, use a whisk to break it up into small chunks. Spoon into the cocktail glasses and top up with the apple juice mixture. Simmer for 5 mins, then turn off the heat. Leave to cool, then chill for at least 4 hrs, or up to 2 days \u2013 the longer you leave it the more intense the flavours. If serving to young children, take the chilli out after a few hours.<\/li>\n<li class=\"pb-xs pt-xs list-item\"><span class=\"mb-xxs heading-6\">STEP 2-<\/span>When you\u2019re ready to serve, pour the juice into a jug. Serve in glass bottles or glasses and pop a straw in each. If you&#8217;re adding vodka, do so at this stage.
